Here on our farm in Hubert, North Carolina, we raise Registered Myotonic goats, more commonly known as fainting goats.
Known for their distinctive appearance, entertaining personalities, and unique muscle-stiffening response, these goats are a wonderful addition to our farm.
Our herd features a variety of beautiful colors and markings, including moonspots, blue eyes, and striking coat patterns. Each goat has its own personality, from the curious and outgoing to the quiet and reserved.
Despite their name, fainting goats don't actually faint!
Myotonic goats have an inherited muscular condition called myotonia congenita. When startled or excited, their muscles can temporarily stiffen, sometimes causing them to lose their balance or fall over.
Throughout these episodes, the goats remain fully conscious. The stiffness typically resolves within seconds, and they return to their normal activities.
Not every goat falls over, either! Some simply stiffen their legs or briefly walk with a rigid gait.
Beyond their unusual muscle response, Myotonic goats are known for their generally calm dispositions, sturdy builds, and wide variety of coat colors.
Our goal is to raise healthy, well-cared-for Myotonic goats with good temperaments, sound conformation, and attractive characteristics.
We especially appreciate the diversity of colors and markings found within the breed, including blue eyes, moonspots, and bold patterns.
While appearance is certainly part of what makes our herd special, health, temperament, and overall quality remain important considerations in our breeding decisions.
Our goats are raised with access to appropriate nutrition, minerals, shelter, and routine care. We believe that responsible management and attention to each animal's individual needs are essential parts of raising livestock.
